in collaboration with Goethe Institut Buenos Aires and ARCH+ Language : Spanish
In D(E)UDAS, a play on the Spanish words deudas (debts) and dudas (doubts), Alicia Agustín created a meeting place in the "Espacio Disponible" gallery space for a confrontation with the topic of debt. It was an attempt to performatively and ritually explore the shame surrounding the topic, the guilt in the word debt and the myth of individual responsibility. People who were interested in participating were given tasks from which collected material was assembled into an altar. In terms of construction, this was reminiscent of the numerous pagan altars of Gauchito Gil, a popular saint who serves as a Robin Hood figure in Argentina, among other things.
